Port of Oakland, California At approx 1600 Monday, 12/26/05, crane X-438, located at berth 22, between cranes X-409 and X-439, suffered a machinery house fire that destroyed a 4160V step down transformer. The fire occurred while working the SEALAND INTREPID, a Maersk vessel. At time of failure, the spreader was in the vessel lifting twin 20s, stopping approx 8' below the hatch opening. 4160V power to the trench tripped. OFD responded with three engines, two ladder trucks, and one chief. The fire was contained and put out by OFD. The Port of Oakland trusted Ampteks to service and test the General Electric SSF08B208 and SSF16B216 in a timely fashion.
